At the very beginning of 2018, I told myself that I want this year to be the year of doing and getting into action, no more thinking and planning just doing. I decided that I wanted to start something interesting for myself and venture into online content creation without over-thinking the process.
I wanted to make 1 minute recordings of some of my writing, like #RapShortStories with unexpected twists & turns.
In part 1 of 'How I met Zandi', I ran into her at the Great Dane and she was a cool person, until I got to really know who she was in part 2 and realised that she was living a double life. This piece of work is social commentary on the stigmas attached to the LGBTQ community in South Africa. There's a cultural element here in this country, where sexual deniability can be brushed off with statements like "that is not African nature". The character in my story, Zandi struggles with coming to terms with her alternative sexuality because of the socio-political landscape she exists within and all the stigmas attached to black women who happen to be Lesbian.
Marine Mother is the re-creation of an under water world. The women in the story is a powerful immortal mermaid with a string of beautiful daughters. In part 1 I introduce her and her daughters in the sea that they live in. In part 2 of the story, the listener discovers the danger with underwater creatures. Turns out, this magnetic mermaid was a water feminist on a mission. Her mission was to wipe human patriarchs off of the face of the earth. She had a secret underwater dungeon, where she collected the dead bodies of all the sea captains who tried to run off with her daughters.
No more talking, planning & wishing. This year we DO! DO! DO!
Stream the 10 track audio-visual mix and re-tweet, re-post & share the work. I've pinned it to my twitter and facebook page so the link is easier to find, do support & engage with the work I'd appreciate that a whole lot. If you do have a comment or question and we're not connected on the interweb (following each other) I will easily find your question with the hashtag #FlowicistDIARIES.
